Up for your consideration is this stunning late 40’s fastback coupe from Cadillac. Designed by Harley Earl and Frank Hershey, they really did strike gold with this superbly proportioned car. What set this car apart was a subtle design cue that led to one of the most iconic, heavily copied trends in motoring history – the tail fin. The inspiration came from the Lockheed P-38 Lightning, America’s finest fighter plane during WW2. The 1949 model year also saw the introduction of the all new 331 cubic inch, overhead valve V8 engine. Just 4764 of these beautiful coupes were manufactured. They stand amoung the most sort after and collectable of all post war Cadillacs. This matching numbers example was stripped for paint prep 20 years ago and is more complete than the photos would initially suggest. Not withstanding this, it is clearly now a significant but massively worthwhile restoration project. Mostly solid, there is some rust that will need attending to but nothing too challenging for a competant fabricator.
